Great choral festivity in the medical world
3rd Polish Doctors' Choirs Festival
Gniezno / Trzemeszno 9-11.11.2017
Premiere performance of Requiem by Karl Jenkins in Poznan
Requiem is a prayer for the souls of the dead. Karl Jenkins chose the typical Latin parts of requiem, but due to his interest in other cultures, he combined them with five Japanese death-themed haiku poems.
In two parts of the haiku the composer combined the male voices singing Benedictus and Agnus Dei in choral style with female voices singing Japanese songs.
The composer dedicates the work to his dead father, who was a musician too.
The work was first performed on June 2, 2005 in London.
Two premiere concerts In Poznań took place on:
September 23, 2017 at 7 pm in the St. Peters' and Pauls' Cathedral
and
September 24, 2017 at 3 pm in the Fara church.
